Currently Looking For

I am interested in diverse storytellers, vivid, detailed worldbuilding across genre, standout voices, and fiction with a strong, high-concept hook. While I appreciate sharp prose, I’m primarily looking for pace and sense of voice that leans more commercial than literary, and I love to see a genre sensibility even in realistic, mainstream fiction. In general, I love historical inspirations, elements of horror in fantasy, dark academia, reincarnation, myth-inspired stories, a mystery plot, Gothic atmospheres, female rage, stories about the cost of magic, and books where the answers do not come easy. As an agent, I am editorially minded and detail-oriented, and eager to work with writers, particularly those underrepresented in publishing, who are ambitious and imaginative. My focus is adult and YA; while I do work on middle grade, I am extremely selective in that space. Please do scroll to the bottom of this page for genres I’m not interested in at this time. IN ADULT I’m looking for a wide array of adult genre fiction, including sff across fantasy, speculative, horror, dystopian, and select sci-fi, romance, and select suspense. In fantasy, my tastes are wide-ranging tonally, from epic and fast-paced like The Will of the Many, to lyrical but accessible like The Knight and the Moth and The Wolf and the Woodsman, to titles that could sit on book club lists like Once and Future Witches and The Familiar. No matter the subgenre, I’m looking for confident voices, detailed worldbuilding, and plots that escalate and surprise. Some more examples: Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang, The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson, She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan, Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel, House of Hunger by Alexis Henderson, The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson, The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett, The Night Ends with Fire by K.X. Song, Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Törzs, The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake, Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong, Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett In horror, I have a high threshold for gore and welcome books that interrogate the darkest parts of who we are and the monsters in our midst. I want stories that are nuanced, characters who are terrible, and plots that upend everything I thought I knew about what I was reading. A sense of the Gothic is always a plus. And on the totally opposite end of the spectrum, give me funny, campy horror in the vein of Rachel Harrison or Grady Hendrix. I am excited about romantic horror ranging from the decadent to the downright monstrous—everything from Crimson Peak to Bones and All to Jennifer’s Body. Some examples: The Children by Melissa Albert, Motherthing by Ainslie Hogarth, Chlorine by Jade Song, Someone You Can Build A Nest In by John Wiswell, Natural Beauty by Ling Ling Huang, The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas, The Reformatory by Tananarive Due I love five-minutes-into-the-future sci-fi, or totally out-there space opera: either The Echo Wife by Sarah Gaile
