Currently Looking For
I am an editorial assistant at St. Martin’s Press, where I am building a list of commercial fiction and nonfiction. I graduated from Middlebury College in 2024 with a degree in English Literature and Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies. As an avid consumer of books, movies, and music across all genres, I am looking for stories that pull you in and refuse to let you go. Fiction: On the fiction side, I am primarily looking for upmarket women’s fiction and book club fiction. I also enjoy novels that lean towards literary fiction. I am looking for voice-driven stories with a strong hook that keep you on your toes. I love books that explore complex relationships, multi-generational tales, and anything with a tinge of romance. My favorite recent reads in these areas have been THE BOOK OF TWO WAYS by Jodi Picoult and REMARKABLY BRIGHT CREATURES by Shelby Van Pelt. I’m a huge fan of anything with a speculative angle, especially books that mess with time and leave you trying to wrap your mind around how the world works. Some examples include THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE by Audrey Niffenegger and THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD by Colson Whitehead. I also love historical fiction! As a die-hard fan of Downton Abbey and The Crown, I’m looking for anything that leans heavily into the time period, exploring untold stories/perspectives and the gender, racial, and social dynamics of the time. To me, in book form this looks like AMERICAN WOMAN by Susan Choi or LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY by Bonnie Garmus. I was also a Greek mythology obsessed child, and a classics and fairytale obsessed English major, and would love to find books that take a new spin on a classic tale, like THE WIFE UPSTAIRS by Rachel Hawkins and SONG OF ACHILLES by Madeline Miller. I am also actively looking for romance! I love anything with a slow burn (I was raised on Percabeth and want to feel the yearning)! I really enjoy books with a strong sense of place, and would love to find a cowboy or New England romance. I also love anything that falls into the speculative or magical realism realm, especially if it has a romance, like THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE by V.E. Schwab, THE EVERLASTING by Alix E. Harrow, or DESTINATION FUNERAL by Paige Harbison. I am also a devoted re-reader of ATTACHMENTS by Rainbow Rowell, and would love anything in a similar vein. I am also not tied to the HEA – I love love stories even if they aren’t pure romances, and I don’t shy away from anything with a melancholy or bittersweet angle/ending like INTO THE BLUE by Emma Brodie. Nonfiction: On the nonfiction side, I am looking for narrative, story-driven books about history, politics, women’s/feminist issues, and pop culture. I am a sucker for redemption and underdog stories (especially in sports), and I would love to find something like THE BOYS IN THE BOAT by Daniel James Brown. Again, I am very interested in the gender, racial, and social dynamics of different time periods, and am looking for books like INCIDENTS IN THE LIFE
