Brandy Vallance comes from a long line of storytellers. An old soul, she fell in love with passed-down tales, the odd and unexplained, and the pursuit of answering the mysteries that perplex us all. She loves to wander down ancient paths, explore dusty libraries, and does occasional archaeology. Her books are a lush escape into timeless romance, breathtaking adventure, and push the boundaries of what is expected. Brandy is the winner of two national writing awards, one of which included a $20,000 prize. Throughout the years, she has worked as a writing coach, story consultant, publishing specialist, and literary agent. From teaching master classes to sitting at quiet tables, she loves helping writers find the true center of a story. Submissions should be emailed to obsidian@quillandflame.com Obsidian publishes science fiction, horror, and fantasy that redeems the dark. Obsidian does not publish darkness for the sake of darkness. We go into the shadowed rooms—the supernatural, the uncanny, the science that slipped its leash, the weird and wonderful and the worlds gone wrong—because that is where courage is tested and light is proven. A candle in the daylight is pleasant. A candle in a dark cellar can be a revelation. Our stories exist so the light can shine that much brighter. Senseless gore, cheap shock, and darkness that doesn’t serve a purpose won’t be a good fit for our readers. An Obsidian story may walk through night, but it must not end there. The last word belongs to hope—not the thin, unearned kind, but hope that has looked something dark in the face and has still chosen to stand. We publish for readers who love the eerie, strange, or mysterious, and still believe the good is worth fighting for. Romance in our stories is welcome, but not required. What is required is this: when the reader closes the book, the darkness has not won. Content rules of no profanity or open door romance. Agented submissions are welcome at any time.
