I started my career in publishing as an editorial assistant right here at Erewhon; prior to joining the Erewhon editorial team, I worked at Barnes & Noble as a senior bookseller, where I learned to track + predict sales and trends, and where I developed a passion for finding the perfect book for every reader. What I’m currently into: I am actively seeking full-length (50k-120k) adult prose novels across the range of speculative fiction. I love chewy book-club books with a splash of speculative, as well as core genre fiction with a flair. My favorite kinds of stories are the ones written with love: for the subject, for the setting, for the reader, and for the genre(s). In sci-fi, I’m looking for high-concept social commentary; warm/hopeful stories about the nature of humanity; twisty character-driven adventures. Bonus points for time travel, neurodivergent robots/aliens, and Afrofuturism & Africanfuturism. I’m especially on the hunt for genre-playful works that infuse SF into other genres or vice versa. Ex: Psalm for the Wild-Built; The Echo Wife; The Prey of Gods; This is How You Lose the Time War; Murderbot; The Space Between Worlds; The Seven-Year Slip; Chain-Gang All-Stars; Gideon the Ninth; The Ministry of Time. In fantasy, I’m looking for fresh secondary world settings or propulsive stories set in our world; low-stakes whimsy or high-stakes adventures; swoony yearning romances and high-octane character dynamics; fresh magic systems and strong thematic resonance. Bonus points for dead gods, star-crossed lovers, and lady knights. I’m especially on the hunt for dark fantasy, cozy fantasy (and cozy fantasy mysteries), and lightly speculative contemporary stories. Ex: Someone You Can Build a Nest In; The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi; Dreadful; The Starless Sea; The West Passage; Nimona; One Dark Window; The Tainted Cup; The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue; Lonely Castle in the Mirror; Long Live Evil; The Everlasting. In horror, I’m looking for intimate character-driven stories; explorations of femininity/gender & the expectations that come with them; atmospheric settings that make you sick to your stomach. Bonus points for religious and/or medieval aesthetics, vampires, creeping dread, and cults (& not-not-cults.) I’m especially on the hunt for book club books that can cross over into domestic thrillers and/or women’s fiction.
