Our commitment
Above the Slush is committed to making our platform accessible to all users, including those who use assistive technologies. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as our target standard. Accessibility is an ongoing effort and we continue to improve the platform over time.
What we've done
- Semantic HTML: We use semantic HTML elements (headings, landmarks, lists, buttons, and form labels) to ensure screen readers can interpret the structure of each page.
- Keyboard navigation: Interactive elements — including forms, buttons, and navigation links — are keyboard accessible and have visible focus states.
- Color contrast: We design with sufficient contrast between text and backgrounds as a baseline. Our stone and rose color palette is chosen with legibility in mind.
- Responsive design: The platform is designed to work across screen sizes, including on mobile devices used with assistive touch.
Known limitations
We are transparent about the following known limitations:
- AI-generated content: Manuscript analysis results, query letters, comp title suggestions, and other AI-generated outputs may not always be optimized for screen readers. Long-form AI text is displayed in standard prose or preformatted blocks, which should be readable by most assistive technologies, but we cannot guarantee full compatibility in all cases.
- Score visualizations: Score gauges and progress bars include numeric text equivalents but may not convey all visual context to screen reader users. We plan to improve ARIA labeling on these components.
- Third-party components: Features powered by Clerk (authentication) and Stripe (payments) are subject to those providers' own accessibility implementations.
